33 Charterhouse Street New Project Win
January 27 2021
With views overlooking the historic Smithfield, 33 Charterhouse Street is set to be a striking addition to London’s smart building portfolio, providing 200,000 sq ft of prime tech-enhanced office space in the heart of the city.
Located just 100m from Farringdon Station, 33 Charterhouse Street is office investment company Helical’s latest development, a joint venture with property company, Ashby Capital. Designed by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, the 10-floor structure will offer floorplates ranging from 13,000 sq ft to 24,000 sq ft, with office accommodation comprising three terraces with extensive views across central London. As well as offering retail space, the building will feature an integrated digital platform to optimise efficiency. Such is its sustainability the design of 33 Charterhouse Street was awarded the UK’s first BREEAM 2018 new construction rating of ‘Outstanding’.
Ambar Kelly will be detailing, manufacturing and supplying 130 of its pioneering RiserSafe® units for this project, to prevent falls from height and the passage of smoke and flame in the event of fire during construction. Main contractor Mace is a champion of riser zone design and safety and has used RiserSafe® on multiple projects with great success. The contractor’s focus on best practice and eliminating risk through design made Ambar Kelly’s RiserSafe® the perfect solution.
Ambar Kelly received an order directly from Mace for the project’s superstructure. Mace has appointed steel giants William Hare, who will be installing RiserSafe® in new slab areas and to the concrete core, which has been recently constructed by Keltbray. SES Engineering Services Ltd, one of the leading M&E partners in the UK, and AccordCAD, one of the prominent names in outsourced CAD & BIM services, are coordinating and design the building services. This is a highly welcomed collaboration all round.
RiserSafe® is a patented system which forms and protects riser floor openings in one action. Offering fire resistance of 1000°C for 1.5 hours, the system reduces the fire and smoke loading of the building within the riser shaft (chimney) environment – making it an accurate benchmark for the Building Safety Regulator’s review.
A product which endures the test of time, RiserSafe® offers protection from the moment of construction to the end of the building’s lifecycle. With an anticipated completion date of summer 2022, the selection of RiserSafe® on this landmark project is once again testament to the system’s safety, quality and innovation.
