Stratford Waterfront New Project Win
January 27 2021
One of the most thrilling developments since the London 2012 Olympic Games, Stratford Waterfront is bringing some of the biggest names to the east, creating opportunities and attracting new people to this bustling area of London. Ambar Kelly will be supplying RiserSafe® units across this £1bn cultural hotspot, which will comprise four key buildings as part of the East Bank scheme, along with up to 600 homes, retail and public spaces. The four buildings will be home to Sadler’s Wells dance theatre, V&A East, the BBC and a new university campus, and are designed by masterplan architects, Allies and Morrison together with co-architects, O’Donnell +Toumey and Arquitecturia Camps Felip for client, London Legacy Development Corporation.
Ambar Kelly has been working on the riser zone designs for the BBC, Sadler’s Wells and V&A’s new east London sites and was selected by the client, Mace for these projects. Modular riser flooring solutions are part of Mace’s riser strategy and best practice, hence there was no better option than to choose RiserSafe® for these projects.
Ambar Kelly secured these projects as a result of RiserSafe®’s ability to prevent the spread of smoke and flame and falls from height together with the 3D modelling which detailed each project’s needs. On the V&A project in particular, it was Ambar Kelly’s innovation which set the company apart from the rest. On this scheme, 140mm dense concrete block walls will be built directly off the single RiserSafe® unit, removing the need for cast in-situ concrete walls. This is due to the floor to ceiling height of the V&A museum’s levels which will be 7.1m high by 1.5 m wide – typically walls are half the height described for normal projects. Impressively, the welded beam that Ambar Kelly employs will be able to handle the walls’ significant loads. This level of innovation will significantly decrease the build time by around 50% as one unit is being fit covering the same area as a lot of smaller individual units split up with walls. This is a process made swifter as RiserSafe® is installed at each level of a building.
With an anticipated completion date set for 2022, Ambar Kelly is delighted to be utilising its innovation and market-leading patented system, RiserSafe® across this landmark development.
